Today we’re celebrating video game day by going back in time a bit to where the first game started. The first industry recognized distributable packaged video game was Odyssey which debuted in 1972 and was created by Magnavox, the brand known for the television. These cartridge based video games for the console system had a number of titles available to users from sports to trivia questions which should not be a surprise with a system touted as a system for play and learning for all ages.

In exploring eBay for these games, we learned that so many of the games now categorized as classics, began with Odyssey with titles such as Wipeout to Invasion. What’s even more interesting is that as noticed in one listings, the games here come with printed instruction manuals and a physical board game as well to use with the electronic version.

This was quite a history lesson for us, but as we know, there have been many exciting titles released from companies over the years that we’ve all come to recognize and we’re comforted knowing that there will always be a place for them here on eBay.

What was your most memorable video game experience when you started playing? If you can’t think of any, we’d suggest that you pick up a copy of this book below to rediscover what built the industry and video game enthusiast community we know of today.
